Labour will repeal Government’s “cruel” bedroom tax

The Government’s Bedroom Tax is both cruel and unfair and the Government should repeal it. If they do not, the Leader of the Opposition has stated that a future Labour Government will do so.

Clive’s Jobs Fair success

Long term youth unemployment has rocketed since 2010 – up by over 1,000 percent in Greenwich Borough alone. For tens of thousands of young people who cannot find work across the country, there is no recovery at all.

The cost to the economy is profound – as higher unemployment leads to lost economic productivity and higher welfare costs. But the cost for each unemployed young person is even more profound: unemployment can have scarring effects on wages; increase the likelihood of future spells of unemployment; and affect mental and physical wellbeing.

That is why Clive Efford joined forces with Greenwich Community College to organise ‘Eltham Works’ – a jobs fair for young people at the College’s campus at the Eltham Centre.

Clive said “I organised the fair because I am extremely concerned about the levels of unemployment locally. The idea is simple. Get the people looking to employ staff in the same room as those looking for work.” Continue reading

Eltham MP Clive Efford has organised a Jobs Fair for 18-24 year olds living in the Eltham constituency at the Greenwich Community College campus in the Eltham Leisure Centre, Archery Road on April 4th between 2.00pm and 5.00pm.

Local MP presented with prestigious ‘Beer Champions’ award in Parliament for work campaigning for beer and pubs

Eltham and Plumstead MP Clive Efford has received a special award today for his working in helping to secure last year’s historic cut in beer duty in the Budget. Clive was presented with the new ‘Beer Champion’ award, including a truly unique new beer brewed especially for the occasion.

The special award is a joint initiative from the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA), Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) all of whom wanted to recognize the role of Clive, who supported Britain’s national drink during 2013, especially for hissupport in scrapping the Beer Duty Escalator, which lead to the cut in Beer Duty.

Mike Benner, Chief Executive of CAMRA, comments:

“This reward recognises Clive for his invaluable support in the campaign to scrap the beer duty escalator. Clive really helped in drawing attention to the harm caused by tax increases totaling 42 per cent over four years.”

Clive attends school science experiment launch

Clive joined EDF Energy and the British Science Association at an event in the House of Commons on Tuesday 11 March to promote the launch of a new initiative, The Great EDF Energy Experiment, to inspire children in Eltham into science.
