Eltham’s favourite curry restaurant, the Yak & Yeti restaurant in Eltham High Street, has been voted the 7th best Indian in the country in the parliamentary Tiffin Cup by a star-studded judge panel of 10, which included celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott.
The Yak and Yeti, a well-known favourite of the local community, is located in the heart of Eltham. It won through the first round earlier this year when local MP Clive Efford invited people from across his Eltham constituency to vote for their favourite local South Asian restaurant, with the Yak and Yeti coming out clearly on top.
Because of its authentic and delicious Indian and Nepali dishes it was then selected from the hundreds of entrants to the grand final where only 11 restaurants around the country were left. It then took part in the Grand Final, an exciting cook-off event, which was held in the House of Commons.
The event judged by MPs and guest celebrities and all the proceeds going to world vision charity.
Clive Efford MP, who was at hand to support his local Indian at the Final alongside managing director Mahendra Kandel paid tribute to the restaurants chefs Ramu Sapkota and Devendra Kafle. “Our Chefs prepared Yak & Yeti’s signature dish TIMUR PIRO CHICKEN, which was conjured up by our talented head chef Ramu Sapkota over a year ago and ever since has featured ever since on our menu.”
A delighted Clive Efford added “To finish seventh best in the country when you remember how many South Asian restaurant there are is an amazing tribute to the Yak and Yeti. It’s also a great honour to our town centre to have such a high-quality establishment. Mr Kandel is to be congratulated. ”
The Yak and Yeti Brand is well known in South East London. Apart from Eltham, the chain also has branches in Bromley and Crystal Palace. It’s not the first time that the Yak and Yeti restaurant chain has gained recognition; its restaurant in Crystal palace was declared the Best Indian restaurant by Crystal Palace TV in 2010. Most recently the restaurant won the Best Curry award from Nepalese Business Association UK.
